Step 10. Set Task Due Date

Task due date is a deadline until which you should complete the task. You can use various tools to make sure that you get the task done on time. Still if you, for some reason, don't close the task before its due date, the task background gets automatically highlighted with a color to attract your attention.

To set task due date
  • In the Task dialog box, select the Due Date check box, click the down-pointing arrow in the date box, and then, in the date picker, click the date that you want.

You can also set due date reminder to notify you at a certain period of time before the task becomes overdue.
  • On the Reminder tab, select the Reminder check box, click Before, click Due Date, and then click or type the time period that you want.

Tips
You can change highlighting settings of overdue tasks:
  • On the Tools menu, click Options, and then in the Options dialog box, click Task List and Tree.

  • To cancel highlighting overdue tasks, clear the Highlight Overdue Tasks check box.

  • To change highlighting color, in the Overdue Color box, click the color that you want.

  • To highlight tasks that soon become overdue, in the Color box, click the color that you want, and then, in the Before box, click or type the time period that you want.

You can sort, group, and filter tasks by due date:
  • To sort tasks by due date, click the Due Date column header.

  • To group tasks by due date, drag the Due Date column header to the Group By Box.

  • To filter tasks by due date, click the down-pointing triangle on the right side of the Due Date column header, and then click the priority level that you want.
